Nurseries told 'don't panic' at new rules

Nursery owners and prospective owners in England have been told not to panic about the new early years regulatory system which is coming into force from September under the auspices of Ofsted's Early Years Directorate. The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) issued the reassurance last week following the publication by the Directorate of four booklets for prospective childminders and daycare providers. The booklets, Childminding: Is it for you?, A guide to registration for childminders, Daycare: Is it for you?, and A guide to registration for daycare providers, outline information needed by people before they apply to be registered and tell them what to do next.

The NDNA said it had been inundated by enquiries since its phone number had been given as a helpline number by Ofsted.

NDNA chief executive Rosemary Murphy said, 'Our message to all enquirers is simply for them not to panic. Most enquiries have come from people looking at starting new provision, though some have come from people who have been in the middle of setting up a nursery and have suddenly found there is no-one to register with. These booklets will give them much-needed information.'
