Nursery World Awards 2009: Resources - Three to fives - New launch

WINNER: M IS FOR ME! YELLOW DOOR

This new resource, written by Helen Bromley, offers an innovativeapproach to teaching initial letter sounds and names that is consistentwith the play-based child-centred approach of good early yearspractice.

This approach personalises phonics teaching. Children are always veryinterested in themselves, so alphabet books and games featuring theirown photographs easily grab their attention.

With the easy-to-use templates on the CD-ROM, practitioners can createalphabet ebooks and make them interactive and fun for the children touse by incorporating their voices and videos.

The CD-ROMs come with user-friendly instructions to guide practitionersthrough the process of creating and editing an ebook in familiarclassroom software. This can all be done on a whiteboard or a standalonecomputer, along with a digital camera and the children's own ideas.
