Nursery World Awards 2009: Resources - Three to fives - Tried and tested favourite

WINNER: LIGHT BOX RESOURCES KIT, REFLECTIONS ON LEARNING

This kit contains all the resources early years settings need to allow children to explore light, colour, pattern, opacity, form, colour mixing and reflections. It also encourages children to count, sort and order, to look closely at detail and to use their imaginations in picture making and story telling.

The kit contains shapes and images, including transparent round and square counters, skeleton leaves and different coloured people that can be linked.

There is also a booklet, written by early years consultants Linda Thornton and Pat Brunton, with activity ideas that are all linked to the EYFS to encourage play and exploration.

Children can work alone or in groups, exploring the materials, combining colours and making patterns and sequences, and describing what they can see. As well as being used on a lightbox, the resources can be used on an overhead projector.
