EASTER BONNET SHOW

Pre-school children at Tops Day Nursery Taunton, Mini Mariners in Somerset (top), Nature Trail Nursery in Brinscall, Lancashire (bottom) and kidsunlimited in Ladbroke Grove, London, got creative and competitive when they made Easter bonnets and then paraded on the catwalk.

ROAD SAFETY

Children at St Blazey Happy Days Nursery in Cornwall enjoyed learning about road safety from the local lollipop man. The nursery staged an interactive road-safety themed week after one of the children had a near miss with a car while on their way to the nursery. Children and staff made their own road signs and traffic lights.

OUTSTANDING

Barbados Playgroup in Bordon, Hampshire, has received an outstanding grade from Ofsted, after nearly five years of transforming the setting into a natural, resourced environment for the children. The playgroup will continue changing to make its setting an even better place for the children to learn, develop and grow.

LITTLE GARDENERS

Toddlers from Elvetham Heath Day Nursery & Preschool in Fleet, Hampshire, immersed themselves in gardening when they made and decorated flower pots using recycled ink cartridges. The children then filled each pot with wet cotton wool and sprinkled on cress seeds. They will now tend to the seeds every day and watch the changes as they grow.

YOUNG MECHANICS

Bangs and knocks filled Little Acorns Nursery in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, as children fixed their broken bikes and cars. The young mechanics made use of nails, tape measures and spanners to fix the problems, while learning about how to use the tools properly and safely.

FATHER BONDING

London Early Years Foundation's Luton Street Nursery staged its second stay-and-play event for dads and children. The aim was for the children to spend time with their father or a positive male role model in their lives. The 13 men who attended made, along with their child, a print of their hand on a canvas to take home. They also made their child a sandwich to enjoy together, allowing them to bond further.

INSPIRED CLEAN UP

Reception children from West Park Academy in Darlington, got involved in 'The Big Tidy Up', inspired by Julia Jarman's book 'Hey What's That Nasty Whiff'. Armed with litter picks, protective overalls and gloves, they set out to clean up the school grounds. This formed part of the 'Love Where You Live' campaign.

READY TEDDY BIRTHDAY

Ready Teddy Go Day Nursery in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire celebrated its 16th birthday with a party. The nursery has come on in leaps and bounds since opening, having gone from an Ofsted grade of satisfactory to good with elements of outstanding.
