Merseyside Police has confirmed that an investigation has been launched following an allegation of a ‘small number of assaults’ at the 59-place It’s the Little Things Children’s Day Nursery in Maghull.
Co-owner of the nursery, Scott McCubin, told Nursery World, ‘We are doing everything we can to help the police with their enquiries. This is an incredibly difficult time for everyone involved.
‘We have been touched by the many messages of support from parents. We are working hard towards getting back up-and-running in the next few weeks.’
The investigation is being carried out in partnership with Sefton Council and Ofsted.
An Ofsted spokesperson said, ‘Due to safeguarding concerns, we can confirm that we have suspended It’s The Little Thing Day Nursery in Liverpool. The suspension of the nursery allows time for a thorough investigation to be conducted and ensures the continued safety and well-being of children.’
A statement from Merseyside Police states, ‘It should be emphasised that this investigation is in the preliminary stages and at this time no person has been arrested. The primary concern of Merseyside Police and their partner agencies is the continued safety of all children.’
It’s the Little Things Children’s Day Nursery is set in a 42-acre private woodland estate in Maghull, a suburb in the borough of Sefton, north of Liverpool. It was graded ‘good’ in an Ofsted inspection in May 2014.
