Our heritage

An independent selection of new products and resources Why restrict group outings to the summer term when there is plenty to see all year round? English Heritage is offering free school visits to over 400 sites around the country and has produced an eight-page booklet, Making Successful Visits to Historic Sites, to help you make the most of your outing. The booklet includes tips on planning and preparation, a comprehensive checklist, pointers on what to look for and how to work while on site, and follow-up tasks for back at base. A guide called Free Educational Visits is also available, along with a resources catalogue. And if you're looking for display material to cover the new term's bare walls, you might want to consider English Heritage's two new series of black-and-white posters entitled Toys and Games in the Past and Seaside Holidays in the Past. Taken from the archives of the National Monuments Record, the photographs show scenes of Victorian children racing home-made go-karts, donkey riding on the beach in the 1950s and lots more besides. Each set contains eight A3-sized photographs and an eight-page booklet with background information and teaching suggestions. Priced 6.99 each.
