Perfectly able

I feel I must respond to Jennifer Brown's comment that 'NVQs are a blessing because not everyone is academically able' (Letters, 8 February). I am undertaking NVQ level 3 in childcare early years and education at my local college. I consider myself academically able, having gained eight O-levels and two A-levels, as well as having completed a two-year, full-time course in social care, but I chose to do an NVQ qualification as it would best fit in with my - and my family's - lifestyle. I work as a childminder and pre-school supervisor from 7.45am to 5.15pm, looking after children aged from 18 months to eight years. I am also a mum to two children aged five and seven, and have to run a house. I hope this gives a point of view for Jennifer to consider.
