Before you study

I just want to let Nursery World readers know of a problem that appears to be out there regarding changing qualifications and courses. Having achieved eight O-levels and three A-levels while having a young family, I enrolled and completed the International Correspondence Schools (ICS) Child Day Care and Child Psychology courses with the view to making a fulfilling career in the early years. After working for two years in a kindergarten I was offered the role of manager on condition that our early years unit approved it. Imagine my surprise when I was told that these diplomas were not recognised. I was of the opinion that they were equivalent to A-levels or NVQ level 3, but apparently not.

Since these and other courses are advertised in Nursery World, I think your readers ought to know that some courses may not be recognised by employers.
