Resentment burns

The story 'Pay will rise for assistants' (News, 16 May) is wonderful news. As an NNEB-qualified classroom assistant I have been astounded at how my responsibilities have changed over the seven years I have been in my present employment. As much as I love my job, I do often resent the low wages that go with it.

I also feel that more recognition should be given to those who are as qualified as myself. I completed two years of full-time, extensive training to gain my certificate, but there is now a wide variety of courses (often lasting less than one year) that qualify people for nursery nurse and teaching assistant jobs.
