Scotland is set for childcare month

Childminders are set to give National Childcare Month a rousing start in Scotland with a wave of activities in the first week of June to raise the profile of registered childminding as a quality form of childcare for Scottish families. Scottish Childminding Week takes place from 1 to 8 June and, according to the Scottish Childminding Association's information officer, Alice McGrath, many of its 6,500 members will be taking part.

The Scottish association has sent packs containing ideas for activities to the 250 childminding groups across Scotland. Many will be backing a 'sponsored toddle' in aid of children's charity Barnardo's, while also raising funds to support their own activities.

In Aberdeenshire, childminders will be holding a Jubilee Fun Day to include a fancy dress competition, story telling and a puppet show. Other events are being planned by Perth and Kinross Council in partnership with childminders, nurseries and out-of-school clubs.
