Summer events celebrate carers

The Scottish Childminding Association is urging registered childminders to celebrate their work and achievements this summer with events ranging from street parties and family barbecues to balloon races. The association has also suggested that childminders mark Scottish Childminding Week (14 to 21 June) by raising money for Barnardo's with a 'sponsored toddle', taking part in a 'penny mile challenge' for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland, or organising an event in support of the Child Accident Prevention Trust.

Other ideas include a 'healthy snacks' teddy bears picnic to promote the Scottish Executive's healthy eating scheme, or getting local childminding groups together to recruit more childminders or let parents know about the childcare available in their area.

The Scottish Out of School Clubs Network is finalising its plans for a week of events to celebrate after-school care, which also takes place in June.
