Scotland's children

Scotland's children have come a step closer to having their own commissioner. Cathy Jamieson, minister for education and young people, announced the Scottish Executive's support in principle for having a Children's Commissioner, but warned that more work was needed to clarify the role. Responding to a report from the Education, Culture and Sport Committee on the 'Inquiry into the Need for a Children's Commissioner in Scotland', Ms Jamieson said, 'Much work still has to be done on the role, remit and powers of a Commissioner for Children and Young People. I understand that the Committee plans to produce a second report which will clarify these issues. We look forward to commenting on those more detailed proposals in due course.'
