Show what delivering NEG costs, nurseries are urged

Private providers were urged last week to work with their local authorities in producing an analysis of the real cost of delivering the free nursery entitlement, following the publication of Government guidance.

Early Years Funding Reform: analysing the costs of delivering the free entitlement to nursery education in the PVI sector is designed to help the Government introduce a single local formula for funding early years provision in the maintained and PVI sectors by 2010.

The guidance, produced with input from the National Day Nurseries Association and the Pre-school Learning Alliance, covers planning the process, engaging providers, collecting information and analysing, presenting and publishing results.

The NDNA urged providers 'to actively engage with their local authority during the process to ensure the analysis is reflective and gives a true picture of local costs for budget setting'.
