Sponsored cycle in aid of ChildLine Scotland:In brief...

A project aiming to study the information and support needs of young lone parents in Scotland has been awarded funding by the Camelot Foundation as part of its 'transforming lives' grants programme. The project will be run by the charity One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) and Glasgow-based One Plus who will focus on the 20,000 Scottish lone parents under 25 and liaise with community groups in Dundee and Glasgow. OPFS director Sue Robertson said, 'Although only about 12 per cent of lone parents are under 25, young mothers and fathers are among the poorest section of the population.' John Findlay, director of One Plus, said, 'Young lone mothers too often find themselves disadvantaged because of their circumstances. The poverty facing so many young lone parents raises urgent questions for those concerned with the welfare of children. This project will aim to give parents themselves a chance to have their say on the issues that are affecting them.'
