Name: Frances Rehal

Position: Children's centre locality co-ordinator in Thanet, Kent

- How did you feel about receiving an honorary MBE?

I was delighted and surprised. I was awarded an MBE for services tochildren and families by the Secretary of State, Ed Balls. I have beencarrying around my MBE and certificate, signed by the Queen and PrincePhilip, to show to staff and parents.

- Why do you think you were put forward for an MBE?

I believe it was for my work at Milmead Children's Centre in Margate, where I spent eight years developing the Sure Start centre and creatinga community mutual, which allows individuals from the local community tobecome members and have an input on decisions made at the centre.

- What are your future plans?

I plan to continue to raise the profile of the needs of young childrenand families and speak up for those who are neediest. This has alwaysbeen my passion.
