Position: Author of the Foodies Books series for children, about growingseasonal food

- How do you feel about being a semifinalist in the 2009 HSBC Start-UpStars Award?

I'm thrilled for me, but what it represents is also important. Finallypeople are realising children and healthy food makes good businesssense. It makes money because it's worth doing.

- What was the inspiration for the Foodies Books?

I was an early years development person for years and kids from thelocal school used to come over to my veggie patch. I was shocked whenone of them asked where the strawberries were, in December. I wanted torecapture the magic of seasonal food. I'm not a purist but food is lessexpensive, more environmentally friendly and above all, tastes betterwhen it's in season.

- What has the reception from children been like?

They love it. Each month stars a different vegetable. First they readthe story of the vegetable, then how to grow it, meet it and eat it.Everything is based on making healthy snacks interesting.
