Powerful elements from classic tales are borrowed and bound together in a new and appealing way in this story about Emily Brown and her dog-eared toy rabbit Stanley. The plucky Emily must stave off persistent advances from local royalty to own 'Bunny Wunny', as the princess insists on calling him.

The reason her servants are sent to steal Stanley is because the princess perceives that the toy rabbit is loved, and she wants a slice of that feeling.

It has strong echoes of the 1920s picturebook The Velveteen Rabbit, where a toy rabbit is treasured so dearly that he becomes real. The collage-style pictures use speech bubbles and sound effects in the same exuberant way as the Clarice Bean books, delivering a jolly experience.
