The first conference on mediation and special educational needs

The first conference on mediation and special educational needs was held this week in Edinburgh, aimed at showing how mediation can help to maintain positive relationships between parents, schools and local authorities and resolve conflicts over children's needs more quickly than an adversarial approach. The conference was organised by Enquire, the national SENadvice service, which has been running a pilot mediation project in five local authorities since May 2001.
