The National Children's Bureau

The National Children's Bureau is calling on the Government to develop a plan of action on children's play following the revelation that an additional 675m of lottery funding will be required to pay for the 2012 Olympics, including 425m from the Big Lottery Fund. Play England, an NCB project that received a 15m grant from the Big Lottery Fund, is concerned that further investment is threatened by the rising cost of the Games. Play England director Adrian Voce said, 'We need to discuss now what happens after the current funding (for play provision) runs out in 2009/2010. For all its feel-good factor and welcome regeneration of east London, the Olympics will not provide a generation of children with the increased opportunities for active play that the Government's own obesity prevention strategy says are vital for future health.'
