This is our nightmare

I have read Nursery World throughout my career. Presently I work for Sure Start. I have more than 20 years' experience of working with children and families. After leaving college I became a nanny and I have worked in nursery settings, creches, out-of-school clubs and as a registered childminder. I have also trained childcare workers, supported them and gained many happy memories from a career which is still growing. I must respond to the advertisement in the 23/30 December issue. How can Nursery World, which supports, encourages, and inspires all professional childcare workers, run an advertisement for ITV 1 asking for people who have employed a 'nightmare nanny, au-pair or babysitter? Were they more interested in your husband/wife than your children?'

I acknowledge that you need to earn money through advertising, but do you really feel this is appropriate?

I am sick to death of the bad publicity childcare professionals receive.

Until we are portrayed by the media as the professionals we are, childcarers will get a raw deal which has a knock-on effect on those who come into childcare.
