A large piece of thin card felt tipped pens glue a tea bag a leaf a piece of material a small button a piece of pasta any number of other everyday objects

Step by step

* On a large piece of card, draw a grid of squares, each of them roughly two inches by two inches.

* Inside each of the squares, write a description of the 'treasure' that will be needed to fill it.

* Hide the 'treasure' in a place that is easily accessible to the children.

* As the children find each piece of 'treasure', glue it on to the right square.

* For younger children you can include some squares that simply need to be coloured in with the right colour.

You can vary the number of squares according to the ages and abilities of the children, the number of children involved and the length of time you want the activity to last.
