Warning form the Child Poverty Action Group

The Child Poverty Action Group has warned the Government not to take away children's benefits as the answer to the problem of truancy from school. Speaking after the Queen's Speech last week, the charity's director, Martin Barnes, said the Government was right to take a tough position on truancy, but children should not be exposed to financial hardship because of the failures of their parents. 'Removing benefits would not sit comfortably with the Prime Minister's personal pledge to eradicate child poverty,' he said.
