Wasted education

I have worked with young children in various capacities and possess both the NNEB and ADCE, but am no longer able to do the job I trained for due to back and knee injuries caused at work. I have undertaken a degree in education with religious studies and race and culture, with the aim of going on to a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Early Years. I had hoped to work with teachers and nursery nurses on equal opportunities and anti-racism issues, but now have received a fourth rejection from one of the six universities I applied to.

How many PGCE students are given places with irrelevant degree qualifications and no experience of working with children? I have been left with a loan of nearly 20,000 to pay off, and no future. I have devoted my life to the care and education of young children and feel a need to continue in some way, even at the age of 44.
