We all need a policy on play

The Welsh Assembly is the first national body to say that the opportunity for children to play is vital to the survival of humanity.

Less than two months ago Jane Hutt, Welsh minister for children, announced the first national play policy in the world. Play is a vital part of growing up - it is at least equal to schooling - and if children cannot play freely, their physical and mental growth will be stunted.

The media tells us that our children are in danger from strangers. In fact, they are in greater danger of being damaged by being kept inside and never let out of adult control.
