We do value parents

In response to Ornella Bushell's letter (Nursery World, 25 August), I disagree with her comments that nurseries fail to see parents as an important resource and view them as a hindrance. We welcome parents and carers into our nurseries. We believe that by working together we can provide the best care and education for each child.

We welcome parents and carers into our nurseries. We believe that by working together we can provide the best care and education for each child.

We can learn from parents about their child and they can gain an insight into how children learn. By working in partnership we aim to support parents as their child's first educator.

Our parents have enjoyed many sessions at the nursery including art and craft, sports days, singing and storytelling, and helped with special events.

We are very aware that parents have a wide range of skills and abilities to offer, but we also understand that when parents are working full-time it can be difficult for them to manage their time. This has been the only barrier I have seen for parent helpers during my 12-year career in early years.
