Involve parents more

Parents are still not being enabled to participate in the nursery education of their children. I feel very strongly about this. I have spent more than ten years of my teaching career working with young children and still find that nurseries fail to see parents as an important resource. Parents have a wide variety of abilities and skills that can be utilised. They should not just be regarded as a fundraising source. More often than not, I think many nurseries see parents as a hindrance rather than a help.

The Government and educators have placed great emphasis upon nursery education as laying the foundations for the child's character both emotionally and educationally. I feel that much more collaboration is needed between early years practitioners and parents in order for nursery education to live up to its expectations.
