We know better

I was not amused to read Maggie Dyer's letter (15 March) implying that childminders would teach teenage mothers that it is right to smack a child or to smoke in front of a child. I have just completed the Certificate in Childminding Practice Stage 3. The childminders I know would not smack but use other forms of teaching a child right from wrong.

Editor's note: I think correspondents have missed the ironic intention of Ms Dyer's letter.
