Who needs this curriculum?

Nursery education was seen by some professionals as 'just' play when I started in childcare 17 years ago. Since then, the profile and importance of nursery education has risen to a great extent.

At nursery children gain independence and a sense of self-worth that enables them to develop. They have the opportunity to socialise and explore and gain invaluable experiences before they start school.

However, I have had reservations for a few years with the implementation of Birth to Three Matters. Babies are intrinsic learners. They will explore and investigate if given the opportunity to do so. Do we really need the overview of child development which is now being developed into a curriculum?
