Who's on the list?

Nannies themselves were cast as the potential troublemakers - again! - in the media this month when the Government launched its Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill. Once it becomes law, parents will be able to check online whether a nanny (or tutor, or any private instructor or domestic employee) has been banned from working with children. No, it's not the nanny register that everyone else has been crying out for; it's a list of known offenders compiled from existing lists of people found unsuitable to work with children. Having a CRB disclosure or passing the Childcare Approval Scheme will remain the only official way for a nanny to show their overall trustworthiness.
