Opinion

Your opinion: Letters - Letter of the week - Parents' priorities

After your story about the restaurant in Cheshire offering childcare while parents enjoy a meal (News, 20/27 December) I was heartened to turn to Pat Wills' comments in 'To the Point' on looking to poorer countries for parenting lessons.

It seems that the richer and more educated our nation becomes, the more it tries to separate its younger members from everyday life, and administer no end of activities and distractions to replace love and attachment.

How refreshing to hear that in Sri Lanka younger children are carried and breastfed, and 'loving their children is an absolute priority'. To me, these are the real basics, and the foundations of a balanced, caring society.
