Nursery expands to meet demand for free hours

A Greater Manchester nursery owner is opening two more settings to offer more funded places.

Nicola Fluery, director of KidzRUs, a group of two nurseries in Salford, is to open a third setting in Media City this month, followed by another nursery in Irlam later in the year, also in Salford.

Both the BBC and ITV have studios at Media City UK, where there is also a large housing development.

The two-storey setting in Media City (pictured below), a former nursery with a café beneath, will offer funded and paid for places, as well as extended opening hours including Saturdays to accommodate for parents working shifts or outside office hours.

Initially just the upstairs space will open and provide care for 60 children. In the future, Ms Fluery plans to extend into the downstairs area formerly used as a cafe, where she will also open a family room and create a space for staff training.

The nursery at Irlam, which will open later on in the year, will provide places for 40 children.

Ms Fluery, who previously worked as a childminder and holds an early years degree, opened her first setting on Manchester Road, Swinton in 2010. The second nursery, KidzRUs: The Lodge, followed in 2013. Together they provide 94 childcare places.

‘I always wanted to open a  nursery, and eventually own a chain of settings,' she said. ‘A high demand for funded places within Salford has been a significant factor in the growth of the business.’

She added, ‘All the nurseries are fully inclusive. For me, it’s about offering quality childcare that is open to everyone.’
