A two-year family-based behaviour treatment for obese children

In a school in Beijing, China, 33 obese children were randomly assigned to a treatment group and 35 to a control group. The treatment group participated in a two-year family-based behavioural treatment programme. Body mass index was significantly reduced in the treatment group but not in the control group. After two years, the treatment group successfully decreased the degree of obesity, reduced levels of blood pressure, and decreased serum lipids.
