Changes to the regulation of early education and childcare

Anyone confused about the forthcoming changes to the regulation of early education and childcare may well find the answers to their questions in a helpful summary published on the Scottish Executive website, www.scotland.gov.uk, last week. The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care - Care Regulation is changing explains that from 1 April a new national body, the Care Commission, will take over registration and inspection of services from local authorities. The commission will also inspect local authority nursery units, which for the first time will be inspected under the same national care standards as private and voluntary provision. Services that are already registered with a local authority will automatically transfer to the commission on 1 April and will not have to pay an application fee; the commission will contact them to confirm when they will first be inspected under the new arrangements.
