University to train inspection staff

Stirling University has taken on the task of training Scotland's registration and inspection officers to implement the new national standards for daycare which will come into effect from April 2002. The staff will be transferring to the new national inspection body which comes into being in September this year, the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care, based in Dundee. Registration and inspection staff who regulate care services for older people, the disabled and children's residential care will also transfer from local authority and health board local inspection units to the commission and they too will be trained up to use new national standards by Stirling University.

The Scottish Executive has awarded 463,000 to the university to train commission staff. The grant covers a ten-month period and the Executive hopes it will pave the way for a smooth transition.
