Cheapening us all

Over the past year I have seen my job working as a nursery nurse in a school whittled down to that of a general dogsbody. The teachers I work with want to do more teaching, but you don't have to do formal teaching with nursery children. At least classroom assistants get to go on courses; I haven't gone on a course in ages. I think classroom assistants are a cheap form of hired help. Instead of using nursery nurses, more schools are using classroom assistants. It's fine for those making these decisions, but they are not the ones who are doing the job. Because of the extra jobs the teachers have to do and all their extra paperwork, the support staff end up teaching the children for no extra pay.
