Childcare recruits targeted anew

Potential childcarers are being targeted again as the latest stage of the Government's childcare recruitment campaign in England takes to the airwaves and newsstands this week. The campaign sees a re-run of the 'Be their inspiration' television advertisement that features a montage of children being inspired by their childcare workers, broadcast for four weeks until 26 October. Press advertisements have also been taken out in a number of women's magazines.

The campaign is still concentrating on recruiting more people from under-represented groups such as men, the disabled, ethnic minorities and people who are aged 50 and above.

John Kannerick from London, who has cerebral palsy and works as a play leader and learning support assistant, said, 'People have preconceived ideas about disabilities and how much you can do. I'd say to any person considering a career in childcare that it's up to you to prove you can do it. I've done it and I know I can make a difference.'
