Company profile

Sue Smart is director of marketing for LFC, the catalogue company that has been supplying schools and libraries with books and furniture for over 12 years. She is particularly proud of launching Kids & Things, the company's range of resources, books and furniture aimed at nurseries and primary schools. 'We launched Kids & Things in 1997,' says Sue, 'and it has grown this year to nearly 200 pages that include everything from literacy resources to arts and crafts, science, music, numeracy, seating and storage. We were also the first to stock book and puppet sets, and that has now grown into a really popular resource with children and teachers - many other companies have followed suit.'

Kids & Things has a huge range of book and puppet sets, with several new additions to this year's catalogue. These include The Pig In The Pond story book with a pig hand puppet (9.99) for very young children, and Lesson in Life for a Lion (priced 15.99), aimed at slightly older children and including the book, a panoramic habitat poster, a read-along CD and a Beanie Lion puppet.

Kids & Things is also passionate about encouraging children to read and to use libraries. A new range of posters and book marks has been included in the catalogue this year with the sole purpose of making libraries and reading corners attractive and tempting to children.

So a set of eight posters and four oversized book marks with nostalgic themes and positive texts - such as 'Books fall open, you fall in' - priced Pounds 9.99 for the set complements a new banner, measuring 990 x 203cm (4.99) designed to welcome children into their library or book corner.

'The great thing about Kids & Things is that it's such a thoroughly nice project to work on because all the items we stock are such fun,' Sue says.

'You can see just how much enjoyment children get from what we stock when you go out and watch them in an educational environment, as we frequently do.'
