Cardboard tube pasta shapes sticky-backed plastic eight lolly sticks scissors paint

Step by step

* Fill the cardboard tube with uncooked pasta and seal both the ends with sticky-backed plastic.

* Carefully cut small slots around the cardboard tube and push the lolly sticks through.

* Paint the cardboard with brightly coloured paint and leave to dry.

* When the children turn the tube upside down, the pasta shapes will get caught on the sticks as they fall, creating a sound like rain.

* As they move the rain stick around the children can also sing songs to do with rain, for example 'I hear thunder' or 'It's raining, it's pouring'.
