Ex-minister heads workforce council

The new chair of the Children's Workforce Development Council for England was named this week as ex-Government minister Estelle Morris. Ms Morris will take up her new post on 23 May, replacing the interim chair Paul Ennals, chief executive of the National Children's Bureau.

Ms Morris will take up her new post on 23 May, replacing the interim chair Paul Ennals, chief executive of the National Children's Bureau.

Ms Morris served as education secretary, and then as arts minister, but stood down as MP for Birmingham Yardley at the general election.

The new chief executive of the CWDC is Jane Hayward, who currently leads the children and youth division in the DfES. She joins on 1 July.

Announcing the new appointments, Mr Ennals said, 'I am delighted that CWDC has been able to make two such high-calibre appointments to what will be extremely challenging posts. Estelle Morris is well known and well respected both for her personal integrity and for her commitment to the interests of children and young people. As chair, her qualities will complement those of Jane Haywood, whose strong knowledge and experience of the sector will be invaluable in her new role. In both appointments, young people had a key role in the recruitment process, and I am confident that under their leadership CWDC will forge ahead in the crucial task of shaping the children's workforce of the future.'
