International Reading Association's 19th World Congress on Reading

Early literacy, multicultural education, the role of the reading specialist and classroom strategies were among the topics discussed when literacy specialists from around the world gathered at the University of Edinburgh last week for the International Reading Association's 19th World Congress on Reading. The Association's president Jerry Johns said, 'As educators communicate with teachers throughout the world, each becomes richer in ideas and methods for helping children learn to read and write and to better understand that we are each more similar than different.'
