There are two types of absences that are familiar to all who work in a nursery setting: factual and fictional. You know in your own mind the difference between the two and which staff they apply to.
The staff absent for genuine reasons follow all the correct procedures, speak to you directly, and it's likely you suspected they might be off because they forewarned you about that sore throat, back, tooth etcetera.
