Joint effort provides nursery for NHS staff

An NHS Trust in the West Midlands has teamed up with Sure Start and the New Opportunities Fund's neighbourhood nursery and out-of-school programmes to offer staff the widest possible range of childcare options. Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which covers three hospitals, opened a new 22-place day nursery in partnership with Sure Start earlier this week.

The trust is running the nursery at the Rowley Regis Family and Community Centre, close to Rowley Regis hospital, and is covering staffing costs, while capital funding for the nursery has come from Sure Start.

Maxine Burrows, the Trust's childcare facilities manager, said, 'We teamed up with Sure Start through the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP). Some 15 of the nursery places will be for trust employees, with seven for Sure Start, with reduced fees, and one free place for emergency respite care.
