MPs point the way for Scottish carers

Chief executive of the Scottish Out of School Care Network Irene Audain has praised a House of Commons select committee report on childcare as offering a 'catalyst for change' in Scotland. The report by the Work and Pensions Committee discusses plans to roll out Children's Centres to the 20 per cent most deprived wards in England, and urges the Government to expand this to the 30 per cent most deprived wards by 2006, with a long-term commitment to establishing them in all areas.

Ms Audain said, 'In Scotland I would like to see proposals to develop fully integrated services for children and young people in every community, permanently funded through national government investment, which is available to all and staffed by a professionally trained and well-rewarded workforce. This model is already proving to be a success in Scandinavian countries, including Denmark and Finland.'
