Nice and easy

There are many ways of easing children's transitions between educational stages. Dr Andrew Lockett offers advice on helping them feel secure and ready to learn We have all experienced times of change in our lives, and know of the uncertainties and anxieties that they can cause. General principles of continuity (see box) stem from principles contained in Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage and resonate with those reflected in both Birth to Three Matters and Excellence and Enjoyment. What is fundamentally important is that we promote seamless transitions for children throughout and beyond the Foundation Stage, as this will impact on them developing positive attitudes to learning and seeing themselves as strong and competent learners.
