Nursery nurses plan more action

Nursery nurses across Scotland intend to embark on two more days of industrial action later this month and plan to reject a public sector pay offer that will be formally made tomorrow (Friday). Unison, which represents public sector nursery nurses in Scotland, held meetings last week to canvas members' views on the pay offer from Cosla, the council employers' body. Carol Ball, chairwoman of Unison's nursery nurse working group, said her local meeting in Glasgow attracted around 800 members. 'We explained the offer and the reason why we were rejecting it and everybody was in agreement,' she said.

Cosla is expected to offer the nursery nurses between 7.25 and Pounds 9.33 per hour, compared with the union's claim of between 9.53 and 11.94 per hour. A Cosla spokesman said that the employers had not officially made any offer, and that it would formally present its offer on 12 September. 'We hope that they will accept this offer. We genuinely believe this is an excellent offer which we worked all summer to come up with. We urge the union to accept it, because there is no room for manoeuvre.'
