For children to gain the maximum benefit from role play, practitioners need to think carefully about:

* the resources provided,

* how often resources are changed,

* how they are stored,

* how accessible they are, and

* if children can use them independently.

Storage

Buy a storage system with hooks, so that children can see immediately what is available. One with wheels or casters will enable resources to be transported outside with ease. Alternatively, present materials in sturdy cardboard boxes, plastic storage boxes or large hampers. Ensure resources are labelled and easily accessible, so that children can use them spontaneously.
