With a tight budget in place, staff built furniture themselves using materials from the outdoors to create a natural feel.

Staff also visited local car boot sales and vintage and charity shops to source equipment that might be unfamiliar to children and therefore stimulate conversation and curiosity.

Nursery manager Ann-Marie Ellison says, ‘We hope our environment inspires other settings to realise that equipment doesn’t have to be the most beautiful or most expensive, as long as it allows children freedom to express their imagination and develop their curiosity.
