The great big enormous turnip

Story retold by Anne O'Connor; illustrations by Georgie Birkett; story ideas, page 20. Once there was an old man. In his garden, he planted a little turnip.

Once there was an old man. In his garden, he planted a little turnip.

He said to the little turnip,

'Little Turnip,

grow strong,

and sweet,

and big.'

And the little turnip grew strong,

and the little turnip grew sweet,

and the little turnip grew big...

until the little turnip was not a little turnip anymore.

Yes, it was a great, big,

ENORMOUS turnip!

So, the old man went to pull up the turnip.

He pulled and he pulled, but the turnip would not come up.

So, he called to the old woman to help him.

'Old woman, please come and help.'
