We are a group of nursery nurses, aged between 20 to 60, who have had enough of the misuse of the term 'nursery nurse'. We feel this misuse undermines our profession.

We have noticed that the term nursery nurse is increasingly being used to simply describe someone who works with children, even if they have not undertaken a qualification. It is not a general term. Just because someone works in a nursery does not automatically mean that they are a nursery nurse. Untrained nursery nurses should be known as nursery assistants.

We have all undergone two years full-time college training to gain a childcare diploma, be it the NNEB, Diploma in Nursery Nursing or Diploma in Childcare and Education ,which gives us the professional title nursery nurse.
