Who needs toys?

In December 2000, our baby unit started what was to be a beneficial task. We decided to ask our parents to donate their till receipts for Pampers nappies so that we could enter the Pampers toy promotion. We had an enormous response, with lots of parents kindly remembering to bring in all their receipts.

When the final count was done at the end of April 2001 we had received an amazing 780 points. After lots of discussion and ideas about which toys would both stimulate each child's individual needs, the baby unit staff decided on the following toys: the twirling whirling garden, the activity table, the cookie shape surprise, the singalong puppy, the kick and crawl playhouse, and the singing snail pail.

As you can probably imagine from our choice of purchases, a lot of selected toys required batteries, so they contained lights and sounds, which are vital for sensory stimulation, especially as one of our toddlers has hearing problems.

Within a week our lovely toys were delivered.

When the box finally reached the babies and the box was assembled, it was met with wide eyes full of amazement. After discovering their equipment, the babies, to our surprise, raced past the toys and decided the box and big bubble wrap was much more fun!
